I recently had an amazing engagement session. Carlee and Kevin came to me specifically because my style lends to a light and airy look. Emphasis on LIGHT. I love light. I will literally shoot in 20 degrees to have pretty light than have a gray gloomy day. Ok, a slight exaggeration because I hate being cold, but you get the picture (no pun intended).
To be honest, Carlee inspired this blog post. Since I want the engagement session to reflect who you are as a couple, I haven’t really built this post before because everyone seems to do so well. But we had so many perfect elements come together that I thought I’d share my thoughts, and why everything Carlee did was just right.
How to prepare for your engagement session
First of all, I have to highly recommend getting your hair and makeup done. Leaving it to the professionals saves you the energy and stress of trying to perfect your look yourself (or am I the only one that spends HOURS trying to do this)? Carlee works at Capelli’s, who did her hair and makeup, and it’s where I send my clients for bridal boudoir, maternity, etc… Second, I really recommend having someone help style your session. Carlee went to Apricot Lane in Champaign.
Lastly, Carlee and Kevin got engaged at Allerton Park, so it was important to them to have the engagement session there. They also wanted to incorporate my Victorian Sofa and their dogs, so that’s what we did. We shot at a time of day that would give us amazing light and compliment the feel they were looking for from their engagement session. The results are not only gorgeous, but reflect who Carlee and Kevin are as a couple. Plus, we got an adorable save the date image with some super cooperative pups.
So with all of that said, getting married in the Decatur, Il area? I still strongly recommend an engagement session, and here’s why.
