Hire a newborn photographer – Don’t make the same mistakes I did!

Don’t be me three years ago.  Hire a newborn photographer.  Here’s why.

Do you remember every detail of your baby?  Personally, mine is three, and my pictures of her are ones I took.  And they suck.  At the time, I thought I knew what I was doing.  While none of the “poses” I did were unsafe, I had no idea what I was doing.  I’ve since taken many classes, done many sessions, and now am finally getting to where I wanted to be (I still have a long way to go though).

Both done safely, but obviously, one taken after I’ve had a bit of training!

So why hire a newborn photographer?

So where am I going with this?  I don’t have pictures of her flaky skin around her fingers, or her stork bite that I was so excited to fade, but now can’t recall the exact shape, or the other spots on her that only appeared for a few weeks after birth.  While I know I loved her toes, do I have those close up shots?  Nope!  Do you?

I know that these images are completely optional to many people.  Having a baby is expensive.  My goodness is it costly.  But I promise you, you will not regret hiring a newborn photographer to capture these once in a lifetime moments.  I will always regret thinking I could handle Gemma’s newborn session, and not getting anything done besides a contractor the hospital allows to come in.

Mainly, hiring a newborn photographer that has been properly trained ensures that your baby is in the safest hands possible.  I’ve taken hundreds of hours of courses, studied hours upon hours on how to pose your precious bundle, and confer and work with colleagues in the area and around the country on the latest poses, safety concerns, and general photography of your baby.  I’ll be honest with you about my own limitations, but ultimately, I will promise that you’ll love your images of your baby.

Jessica shares her reasons (far more eloquently, I might add) on reasons to hire a newborn photographer.  Check out her blog post, especially points such as safety, equipment, etc.
